Name: Dromaius novaehollandiae
AKA: Emu (pronounced ee-mew)

Location: Originally native to Australia, they can now be found around the world, and have become popular on American Farms.
Fun Fact: It is believed that the emu is a survivor of prehistoric times and dates back some 80 million years roaming the outbacks of Australia.
Stats: A mature emu is 5 to 6 feet tall and weighs 90 to 120 pounds. They are flightless, but are strong runners, covering about nine feet in stride. A emu can run a fast as 40 miles per hour in short bursts, and can jump nearly 7 feet!
Strange But True: An emu can live in temperatures from 100 degrees to below zero! The are naturally hardy and disease resistant, and they are productive for up to 35 years!
How Do You Like your Eggs?: A mature female lays an egg every three days, and will normally lay between 20-50 eggs in one season. The eggs are large and emerald green to turquoise in color.
